Nalaxone [Narcan] is an opiate antidote that stops the effects opioids.  It is a prescription medicine that blocks the effects of opioids and reverses an overdose.  Opioids include heroin and prescription drugs like morphine, codeine, oxycodone and Vicodin.   If a person has overdosed on opioids and is then given Narcan, the opioids will be knocked out of the opiate receptors in the brain, the person will come off their high, allowing the overdosed person to breathe normally and receive medical attention.

Through the New York State Department of Health, I offer one-hour Narcan Trainings which train you to identify and treat an overdose until professional medical personnel arrive; I supply Narcan kits at no cost to family members of those struggling with opioid addiction; to mental health and medical clinicians; and to addiction counselors and others who lives cross paths with opioid users.
